Northwest’s Canadian portfolio comprises 50+ buildings with approximately four million square feet of space. Our properties are typically clustered in major cities and their surrounding communities, and situated in close proximity to hospitals, healthcare facilities, and key amenities. The strategic combination of national reach and local presence allows Northwest to capture the benefits of operating efficiently on a large scale while maintaining personalized, local connections with tenants and the communities they serve.

Canadian Roots
Northwest was founded in 2004 as a private company with a vision to transform the historically fragmented healthcare real estate market into a new, institutionally owned property sector. Where others saw a fractured and management-intensive asset class Northwest saw an opportunity to provide physicians and healthcare operators with high-quality medical real estate options that could improve their ability to deliver exceptional healthcare.
Over the next five years, Northwest established itself as the largest non-government owner and manager of medical outpatient buildings in the country, leading to a successful IPO in March 2010, achieving a public listing on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
In 2015, Northwest Healthcare Properties REIT and Northwest International Healthcare Properties REIT agreed to combine, creating a leading global diversified healthcare real estate investment trust and the only TSX-listed REIT focused on global healthcare real estate.
Throughout the company’s growth and evolution, Northwest has celebrated its Canadian beginnings and stayed true to its founding vision of being a visionary partner to dedicated physicians and healthcare operators across the country.

Whenever we gather at our office buildings, it is essential to recognize that people lived on and cared for these lands for centuries before our offices stood on these grounds.
